5-Day, 4-Night Hiking & Wine-Tasting Tour Moderate hiking, exquisite luxury, and some of the world’s finest Syrahs are in store for you on this deluxe California wine country adventure.
Santa Ynez Valley is considerably warmer than Santa Maria Valley to the north, enabling this region to excel at growing some of the most lush Syrahs in the United States, along with numerous other Rhône varietals. Several Bordeaux and Italian varietals have also gained acclaim in this versatile Santa Barbara County AVA. Flanked by the Santa Ynez Mountains to the south and the San Rafael Mountains to the north, this well-established wine region maintains a pleasant, temperate climate.
On this tour, you’ll enjoy two comparative blind wine tastings, visits to local Santa Ynez Valley wineries, and some superb hiking as well as all meals, local lodging, transportation & fees, and room tax.
Sunday Meet your California Wine Hikes tour guide mid-afternoon at your hotel, where you’ll enjoy a buffet reception and your first tasting, a blind comparison tasting of six locally-produced Syrahs.
Monday Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, grab a lunch and water, then board the van for a 3-mile hike abundant with scenic views upon an overlook above the Pacific Ocean. The view from this overlook is priceless! You’ll see miles of grassland on one side and miles of blue Pacific Ocean, including the Channel Islands, on the other. You’ll journey back through Solvang and the Santa Ynez Valley, stopping at one or two of our favorite wineries along the way to sample their delectable wines. You’ll return to the hotel for a brief rest, followed by dinner and wine at a popular local restaurant.
Tuesday You’ll take a brief spin after breakfast to a local trailhead that is a popular favorite. After a 5-mile saunter through a lush riparian forest, you’ll journey once again to visit more wineries in the Santa Ynez Valley. After your return to the hotel to tidy up, you’ll enjoy dinner and local Santa Barbara nightlife.
Wednesday Today you’ll hit the hills just north of town, where you’ll climb a 5-mile switchback trail to one of the most commanding local views around. You’ll eat lunch while you enjoy the view, decide you don’t want to come back down, come back down anyway to the trailhead, then hop in the van and return to your hotel, where you’ll have a couple of hours to shop or unwind before you assemble at the hotel restaurant for dinner and your second blind tasting together.
Thursday You’ll have a leisurely breakfast, then an optional short walk around town. If you’ve booked a spa treatment for yourself, this might be a good time to revel in your well-earned luxury! At noon, you’ll raise a final glass to each other and say your farewells.
