5-Day, 4-Night Hiking & Wine-Tasting Tour Take delight in tasting delectable Central Coast Zinfandels, Syrahs, Pinot Noirs and other fine Rhone-style wines of greater Paso Robles and Santa Lucia Highlands regions, and enjoy invigorating hikes offering incredible views of the surrounding Pacific Ocean and the Central Coast wine country.
Paso Robles is home to more than 100 wineries and 26,000 vineyard acres focusing on premium wine production. The distinct microclimates and diverse soils, combined with warm days and cool nights, make growing conditions ideal for producing more than 40 wine varieties from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to Syrah, Viognier, Roussanne, and the area’s heritage wine varietal, Zinfandel.
On this tour, you’ll enjoy two comparative blind wine tastings, visits to local Paso Robles wineries, all meals, local lodging, transportation & fees, and room tax. And of course, there’s all that scenic area hiking to whet your whistle!
Sunday Meet your California Wine Hikes tour guide mid-afternoon at your hotel, where you’ll enjoy a glass of bubbly and a buffet reception, followed by your first wine tasting, a blind comparison tasting of six locally-produced Zinfandels. And what better way to enjoy your new surroundings than to have an in-house chef prepare your first group dinner. Welcome to the Paso Robles wine country!
Monday Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, grab a lunch and water, then board the van for a 2.5-mile “getting started” hike on a ridge in the Santa Lucia Range above Morro Bay. The trail dips and winds along the East Fork of Mono Creek, passing through a riparian woodland and chaparral. You’ll journey back to some of our favorite Paso Robles wineries on the east side of the highway to sample a variety of wines. You’ll return to the hotel for a brief rest, followed by dinner and wine at a popular local restaurant.
Tuesday After breakfast, you’ll journey over lush rolling hills to the coast for a 4-mile hike including beach bluffs and tidepools. After lunch, you’ll visit Paso Robles wineries on the west side of the highway. After your return to the hotel to tidy up, you’ll enjoy dining at Artisan, Executive Chef Chris Kobayashi’s immensely popular contemporary downtown restaurant. Optional: a post-dinner “walking cruise” of the Paso Robles downtown, distinctive for its elegant nightlife options.
Wednesday Today you’ll visit one of the finest coast walks in central California, an easy 3-mile hike offering nonstop views of rocky offshore outcrops, colorful rock cliffs and arches, and the deep blue Pacific Ocean. You’ll enjoy lunch nearby, then hop in the van and return to your hotel, where you’ll have a couple of hours to shop or unwind before you assemble at Villa Creek Restaurant for a Mediterranean-inspired dining experience. It is here that you will participate in your second blind tasting of the week, an exploration of local Rhone-style blended wines.
Thursday You’ll enjoy a leisurely breakfast at Panolivo Gourmet Bistro, then an optional short walk either around town or along the Salinas River. If you’ve booked a spa treatment for yourself, this might be a good time to revel in your well-earned luxury! At noon, you’ll raise a final glass to each other and say your farewells.
