California’s finest wines on auction this week
By all appearances, WineBid.com is an efficient, user-friendly Internet auction experience that offers the same fine and rare wines available at traditional brick-and-mortar wine auction houses. I’ve been occasionally checking out the site over the past year because someday when I grow up I’ll be able to afford the minimum bid on some of their offerings.
From Abreu and Dalla Valle Maya to Screaming Eagle and Turley, wines from many of California’s finest producers are offered on WineBid.com. Included in this week’s auction is a collection of 93 wines up for bid. This collection includes cabs, chardonnays, syrahs, zins and pinots such as:
1997 Abreu - 100 points, Robert Parker
2002 Dalla Valle Maya - 92 points each, Robert Parker and Stephen Tanzer
2001 Harlan The Maiden - 98 points, Wine Enthusiast
2002 Pride Claret - 97 points, Robert Parker
2001 Screaming Eagle - 98Â points, Robert Parker
Looking for Chardonnay? Included are many from Peter Michael and Kongsgaard.
WineBid.com is based in Napa, California, and claims to maintain a temperature-controlled warehouse and a staff of experienced wine professionals who inspect every bottle of wine they auction. They purport to be the largest Internet wine auction house, with more than 40,000 registered users worldwide. The website runs weekly auctions 24 hours a day, 52 weeks a year.Â
